Though her untimely death occurred on August 31, 1997 in a car crash, which was declared as an accident that occurred because of a driver who was drunk and who was driving the car very fast, Princess Diana was already aware that there were plans to kill her.
After her divorce to Prince Charles, she wrote in a letter to her former butler, Paul Burrell, that she was living in the most dangerous phase of her life, where plans for murdering her were being made. She even had information that there were plans being made to tamper with the brakes of her car, to cause a car accident and to also cause a serious head injury.
This information was reportedly passed on to her by an insider of the Royal family and also by someone who was working for the British Intelligence. As per Paul Burrell, Princess Diana was completely relying on the friendship, advice and sincerity of this person who was giving her this information. She also felt that the primary reason why she may be killed was to enable Prince Charles to marry again. Apparently there were even warnings given by another family member to Princess Diana that she should try and remain discreet as she was being spied upon.
She not only wrote a letter to Paul Burrell, but she also confided her fears in an old friend, Robert Deverick. It is believed that she told Deverick quite often that whenever it would be convenient, someone might just bump her off. Because of this she even refused police protection as she saw police as being government’s tools.
It is sad but true that one may never know the truth behind Princess Diana’s death.
